Venture the Irish Countryside on your Luxury Barge Cruise

An Inspiring Journey

The Shannon Princess travels the River Shannon, Ireland’s longest river comprising of a series of lakes, rivers and canals. It is a river of natural beauty, unspoiled landscapes, wild fowl reserves, history, antiquity and folklore. Throughout your journey be inspired by the surrounding beautiful Irish countryside as we cruise to medieval towns and villages along the shoreline between Athlone to Killaloe.

Discover Natural Beauty

The River Shannon is a natural beauty and enjoys a richness in wild flowers, birds and animals along its shorelines. Sit back and relax on our luxury barge hotel and enjoy the many sights along the way. At certain locations we moor right up to the banks of the River Shannon and bring our guests on excursions; such as Clonmacnoise – an early christian settlement established in the 6th century which has survived for thousands of years. Further south at Mountshannon our guests can observe the rare white tailed eagles nesting in waterside trees.

The riverside town of Athlone has much to offer which you can enjoy at your leisure. The river is overlooked by Athlone Castle, which dates back to the 13th century. Enjoy cruising along the river taking in the views from the town while you dine on deck.

Lough Ree & Lough Derg

Lough Ree and Lough Derg are lakes on the River Shannon. Lough Ree is well known for tales of Irish folklore. It stretches for miles to the beautiful village of Glasson. Entering the charming shores of Lough Derg we arrive into Mountshannon and Terryglass – lovely villages perched on the lake. We pass through ever-changing landscapes on our journey. North of Lough Derg the River Shannon has a very shallow gradient and in parts regularly floods its banks resulting in wet grassland area, known as the Shannon Callows. This area is renowned for its wildlife, flora and fauna.
